Diwali 2025 is not merely the Festival of Lights, but it also presents an excellent opportunity to take a step towards prosperity by investing in a new home. Purchasing a property in Noida during this festive season is not only a symbolic representation of new beginnings but also a guarantee of long-term wealth generation. ACE Group’s carefully planned apartments in Noida can be the start of a more pleasant and safer future for your family this Diwali.

What is Diwali and Why Does It Matter in Home Buying

Celebrated throughout India, Diwali marks the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. The festival typically lasts 5 days, with each day carrying a distinct meaning. The primary day (usually the third) celebrates the homecoming of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after slaying Ravana, according to the epic Ramayana. It is also linked to the goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity; therefore, most families conduct a Lakshmi Puja to usher in a year of blessings and prosperity.

Diwali 2025

It is traditionally a period of cleansing, decorating homes, purchasing new items and celebrating togetherness. Most importantly, it is viewed as a good time to make meaningful investments, such as in gold, cars, and real estate.

Diwali will be observed in October 2025, and the festive season is expected to see a significant increase in property bookings in Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway region. Developers typically release short-lived holiday deals, while banks reduce interest rates to appeal to homebuyers.

Why Diwali Marks the Perfect Beginning for a New Home

The tradition of purchasing a new house around Diwali is entrenched in the notion of bringing good luck, peace and abundance. This is why Diwali 2025 would be the best moment to buy an apartment in Noida:

  • Festive Offers & Discounts: ACE Group and other developers introduce exclusive payment plans and perks during Diwali.
  • Lower Home Loan Rates: Banks and NBFCs roll out reduced interest rates, making homeownership more accessible.
  • Auspicious Timing: Culturally, Diwali is regarded as an ideal time to invest in something permanent and valuable.

With all the positive vibes of the season, making a property choice during this period seems not only economically prudent but also emotionally satisfying.

With cultural significance, festive offers, and the blessings of Goddess Durga, this season has always been deemed ideal for buying a new home or a property investment.

What is Sharad Navratri and Why It Matters for Property Buyers

Sharad Navratri is an annual festival celebrated throughout India and is devoted to Goddess Durga and represents new beginnings, positivity and prosperity. Traditionally, families make important life decisions – like purchasing homes – during this period because it’s believed that properties that are bought under the Goddess’s blessings ensure happiness and stability.

In real estate, Navratri is also marked by Shubh Muhurat (auspicious timings), making investments more culturally significant. Developers in Delhi-NCR, including ACE Group, often announce their launches, offers and possession dates during this festive time of the year.

Ganesh Chaturthi is a festival that is observed to commemorate the birth of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom and prosperity. Devotees bring home idols of Ganesha, worship him with devotion, and immerse the idol in water after a few days, symbolising his return to the divine. The festival celebrates new beginnings, success, and spiritual growth.

Selecting an appropriate Ganesh Murti to place in your home is not just an aesthetic choice but a spiritual one based on the principles of Vastu Shastra. According to Vastu, a sitting idol of Ganesh with a left-facing trunk, ideally in white or turmeric (yellow) colour, should be placed in the northeast direction. With Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 just a few weeks away, many homebuyers and residents are considering Vastu-friendly idols to provide peace, wealth, and happiness in their homes.

Growing Interest in Vastu-Compliant Ganesh Murtis for Homes

A major component of spiritual alignment is to place a Ganesh idol that follows the traditional Vastu principles. Whether in the form of daily worship or festival-specific celebrations such as Ganesh Chaturthi, the form of the idol of Lord Ganesha, its posture and placement are crucial in determining the energy of a home.

This blog explores everything you need to know: ideal idol types, colour meanings, correct placement directions, and how to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi in a spiritually balanced way.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2025

Why Keep a Ganesh Murti at Home?

Lord Ganesha is a distinguished figure in Hinduism who is the deity of removing all obstacles (Vighnaharta) and the bringer of good luck and new beginnings. He is always called upon when starting something new – be it a business, a new house or even an occasion in the family.

Lord Ganesha’s presence symbolises mental peace, focus, and protection from negative influences. Vastu Shastra suggests that Ganesh idol placement can be used to balance the energies in a house. It initiates a spiritual harmony besides creating a progressive and peaceful environment for all the occupants of the space.

Which Ganesh Murti is Best for the Home as Per Vastu?

Not every Ganesh idol can be used; Vastu suggests that every aspect of the idol has its significance, including the colour of the idol and the direction of the god’s trunk.

White Ganesh Idol

Ganesh Chaturthi 2025

A white Ganesh idol is an indication of purity, peace and calmness. It is most suited for families looking to find peace and inner tranquillity. It is a popular option in modern homes and is especially favoured by those moving to new apartments that emphasise peaceful lifestyles.

Yellow or Turmeric Ganesh Idol

Ganesh Chaturthi 2025

Yellow has a connotation of learning and wisdom. One of the most auspicious Ganesh idols is turmeric in colour and is thought to bring good luck, wealth and better concentration. It would be ideal for students, working professionals, or individuals who have recently moved into new flats and want to start a new chapter in life.

Sitting Ganesha

Among the Vastu-friendly postures, a Ganesh idol may be in a sitting posture (Lalitasana), which symbolises composure and a strong, grounded nature. It is believed to bring stability to the home, and it is strongly encouraged to be worshipped daily at home. Standing or dancing Ganeshas, though beautiful, are more dynamic and hence suitable to adorn ceremonies or festivals.

Left-Trunk vs. Right-Trunk Ganesha

Lord Ganesha has a symbolic trunk. A trunk facing to the left (Vamamukhi) is best adapted to the home, as it symbolises lunar energy, calm, soothing, and easy to satisfy. On the contrary, the right-facing trunk (Dakshinabhimukhi) is said to be more potent, and stringent rituals are to be observed, thus making it less suitable for standard domestic worship.

Best Direction and Placement for Ganesh Idol at Home

Vastu shastra is much concerned about the direction and placement of the installation of any religious idol, particularly the idol of Lord Ganesha.

If the northeast is inaccessible, the east or west walls of the pooja room or the living room can serve as suitable substitutes. Make sure that the idol of Ganesha is facing the main entrance or against a clear and uncluttered wall.

You should not keep the idol facing the south, near bathrooms, kitchens or shoe racks, as they are not considered auspicious. Moreover, the idol must not be placed directly on the floor, but a clear, raised dais or chowki must be used.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2025

Ganesh Murti Selection for Ganesh Chaturthi 2025

The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 is going to be celebrated with great zeal all over India and particularly in urban households where spiritual values are being merged with modernity. To those who have bought a new home, this is a significant chance to begin with divine blessings.

The selection of the idol is more important during the festival. Vastu advises the use of eco-friendly clay models of idols, as opposed to plaster, because it is spiritually and environmentally sound. An idol in a sitting position with a serene face and a left-curved trunk is good to be placed at home.

In terms of size, select an idol that fits your living environment. A 1-2-foot idol is most effective in apartments when temporary setups are used. Once visarjan (immersion of idols) is done, it is advisable to have a smaller permanent idol of Ganesha at home, which can be prayed to daily.

Dos and Don’ts for Keeping Ganesh Idol at Home

Dos:

  • The idol should always be on a clean and raised platform and preferably facing east or northeast.
  • Make sure of regular upkeep with fresh flowers, incense and diya lighting during prayers.
  • Cleanliness and devotion should be maintained in the pooja area always at all times.

Don’ts:

  • You should never keep an idol which is chipped or broken, as it is inauspicious.
  • It is not advisable to have several Ganesha idols within the same worship area, which would cause energetic confusion.
  • Do not keep the idol in dusty corners under stairs or close to unhygienic places.

FAQs About Ganesh Murti and Vastu

Q: Can we keep the Ganesha idol in the living room?
Yes, provided the idol is in the northeast, east, or west, and that the area is clean and undisturbed.

Q: Which colour Ganesh Murti brings the most luck?
White is said to bring peace, and yellow (turmeric) is said to attract wisdom and prosperity.

Q: What type of Ganesh Murti is ideal for Ganesh Chaturthi?
The eco-friendly sitting Ganesha idol (left curved trunk, calm expression) would be perfect for Ganesh Chaturthi 2025.

Q: Is it okay to keep both a permanent and a festival idol?
Yes, but the permanent idol must be left after visarjan to be worshipped daily. Never set up two idols in one space at the same time.

Final Thoughts: Blend Tradition with Vastu Principles

Be it bringing Lord Ganesha into a traditional house or moving to one of the best apartments in Noida, adhering to Vastu principles would allow the development of a spiritually enriching atmosphere. A perfectly selected and strategically positioned idol can add peace, positivity, and protection to your everyday routine.

With Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 just around the corner, there is no better time to bring more unity between tradition and purpose to your space.

With the spirit of Holi 2025 already in full swing, we all can’t wait to welcome another wonderful edition of the festival. Holi is the festival of colours, representing the spirit of spring and renewal. Holi, which is referred to as the festival of colours, holds essential cultural and mythological importance throughout India. Traditional Hindu beliefs form the basis of this festival which marks the triumph of goodness over wickedness especially through the tale of Prahlad and his aunt Holika.

Mythology tells the story of Prahlad who survived his father King Hiranyakashipu and his aunt Holika’s lethal fire test because of his loyal devotion to Lord Vishnu. Holi starts with Holika Dahan where people burn a bonfire to symbolically eliminate negative energies before celebrating the vivid festivities dedicated to unity and joy.

There is a unified sense of being in a community and celebrating and experiencing the beauty of colour. This festive season, add some liveliness to your home by adding Holi-inspired decor. So, let’s explore how you can bring colour into your home with a dose of the colourful spirit of Holi.

Embracing the Holi Colour Palette

Vibrant colours that are associated with Holi have their own symbolic meaning. We traditionally use red, yellow, green and blue as love, happiness, harmony and tranquility. If you wish to include these hues in your home décor, here are some tips for it:

Holi 2025

Balance with Bold Colours: Apply bold colours as an accent to the area instead of bombarding the whole place. Or keep it simple by adding some yellow throw pillows or a red vase, and you will have a pop of colour. Another way to go on without committing to big changes is by using colourful curtains or sarees as decor arrangements.

Festive Ambience: Experiment with colours – change the pillows and cushions, place fairy lights or lanterns, or add a crystal bowl with floating candles and petals to round off the festive atmosphere. These are easy to integrate into your existing decor and make the ambience lively.

Using these colours in your home decor can instantly liven up a space, making it a great addition when celebrating Holi in 2025.

Festive Floral Arrangements

Decorating with flowers enhances the beauty and colourfulness of Holi celebrations. People use marigolds and roses, along with other types of flowers, as decorations during Holi festivities. Here are effective ways to make beautiful floral setups.

Holi 2025

Rose Centerpieces: Roses arranged in colourful displays make exquisite decorations for your dining table centrepieces. The rose centerpiece looks spectacular when paired with candles and fairy lights for an inviting ambience.

Floral Walls: Build a floral wall by using various flowers together with plants to make your living room appearance more dramatic. Temporary peel-and-stick decals as well as real flowers arranged in patterns can achieve this effect.

Through their touch of brightness, the arrangements create a dual effect of visual beauty while conveying the colourful spirit of Holi.

Textiles and Textural Elements

Using textiles inspired by Holi is an excellent method to create visual depth while making décor more interesting. Vibrant rug throws and cushions transform an ordinary living room space into a festive decoration addition. The following approach allows you to combine different patterns and materials successfully:

Holi 2025

Vibrant Cushions: Use brightly coloured cushions crafted from sarees or other vibrant fabrics to enhance your furniture with pops of vibrant colour. You should also try combining velvet and cotton textures to create visual appeal.

Patterned Rugs: The addition of patterned rugs can bring warmth and vibrancy to living rooms and study areas. Handcrafted jute or bamboo silk rugs help create a natural atmosphere.

These Holi-themed home textiles serve the purpose of mirroring the festive spirit and creating comfortable environments.

Holi-Inspired Accents and Decor

Holi-inspired decorative pieces, including artworks, figurines, and other decorative items, will personalise your space. Some DIY projects with modern integration ideas include the following:

Holi 2025

DIY Crafts: Create lively DIY crafts such as colourful paper lanterns, paper flower garlands, and coloured thread tassels. These decorations can be used to decorate your door frames or walls, creating a vibrant environment.

Modern Integration: You can achieve contemporary festive decor by using glass vases containing colourful stones or beads, which create both elegance and merriment in your design. Old jars and bottles can also become festive decorations through basic painting applications with Holi-themed colours.

Themed Decor: A Holi-themed photo booth area can be created using decorative props, including party umbrellas and sunglasses. This decor element’s playful nature creates a vibrant addition to your space.

Adding festive accents makes personal spaces more attractive while expressing Holi’s joyful spirit.

Transforming Your Outdoor Spaces

Using your balcony or garden area lets you extend the Holi celebration experience while enjoying it with your loved ones. The following list provides steps to blend indoor and outdoor decorative elements successfully:

Holi Decor 2025

Colourful Planters: Use colourful planters containing bright flowers or plants to introduce vibrant colours in your outdoor area. Attaching flower pots to your balcony can enhance your balcony and create a beautiful flowing arrangement.

Festive Furnishings: To produce a lively atmosphere, use festive outdoor furniture along with colourful rugs and furnishings. Natural furniture made from rattan and woven materials will create a natural appearance.

Seamless Transition: Installing fairy lights or lanterns on your balcony lets you achieve a smooth flow between indoor and outdoor areas. A colourful dupatta canopy can serve as an outdoor shading solution while adding celebratory flair to your venue.

Holi 2025 unveils its authentic spirit through vibrant colours and joyful celebration. You can turn your home into an inviting space for your family by decorating it with Holi-inspired elements, which simultaneously celebrate the festival.

The colours of Holi should become the foundation for transforming your home into a bright, festive sanctuary. Make Holi 2025 memorable by decorating your home with vibrant colours and joyful accents while celebrating the festival through traditional customs and décor. Happy Holi!

In this blog, you’ll find creative ideas and tips to create an unforgettable New Year’s Eve Party with themes, activities, and food to welcome 2025 in style.

Importance of Celebrating the New Year in a Memorable Way

The New Year provides us determination and some time to reflect and be grateful for where we’ve been. A well-thought-out celebration can bring friends and family together while helping close the door on the previous year. Hosting a memorable New Year 2025 celebration isn’t just about having joyful experiences—it’s about setting yourself up for new beginnings, too. Whether having a small get-together or a big bash, the night must be unique to welcome the new year with positive vibes and motivation.

Theme Ideas for New Year 2025 Party

New Year 2025

Roaring ’20s

With a glamorous Roaring ’20s theme, transport your guests back in time. Here’s how to create an unforgettable experience:

Dress Code: Take everyone back to the spirit of the Jazz Age by encouraging flapper dresses, feather boas, and dapper suits.

Decorations: Use art deco designs, including geometric patterns and metallic accents, to evoke the opulence of the era.

Cocktail Bar: Open a speakeasy-style bar where guests can enjoy classic cocktails like martinis, Southside gin cocktails, and sidecars.

Music Playlist: Fill your playlist with jazz standards and popular songs from the 1920s and you will have everyone dancing.

Games: Get the entertainment rolling throughout the night with cards and dominos that were popular during that time period.

Pyjama Parties

New Year 2025

Why not have a pyjama party if you want a cosy and fun party? This laid-back theme is perfect for an intimate gathering:

Dress Code: Invite guests to relax in their favourite loungewear.

Movie Marathon: Set up a marathon featuring classic films or recent hits to entertain everyone.

Cosy Atmosphere: Create a comfortable setting with blankets and pillows scattered around for lounging.

Food Options: Serve comfort food like pizza, popcorn, and hot chocolate. You could even create a hot cocoa bar with various toppings.

Interactive Activities: Add an interactive element by playing board games or hosting trivia contests related to movies or pop culture.

New York-Themed Celebrations

Host a New York-themed celebration to capture the essence of Times Square. Here’s how to bring the Big Apple vibe to your party:

Decorations: Incorporate glittering decorations, oversized clocks, and countdown banners to set the scene.

Urban Vibe: Create an urban atmosphere with cityscape backdrops and twinkling fairy lights that mimic the iconic New Year’s Eve ambience in New York City.

Midnight Countdown: Host a mini ball drop at midnight using a decorative disco ball or an oversized prop for guests to countdown together.

Dress Code: Encourage guests to wear their best New York-inspired outfits, such as chic cocktail dresses or stylish suits.

Food Options: Offer New York-style food such as bagels, mini cheesecakes, and street food-inspired bites like sliders or hot dogs.

Entertainment Playlist: Curate a playlist featuring songs from Broadway shows or classic New York artists to keep everyone entertained throughout the night.

Invitations and Guest List

Your invitations set the mood when creating an inviting atmosphere. Use creative invitation ideas that set the tone for your party:

Digital Invitations: Send stylish digital invites online that are visually appealing, making it easy for people to RSVP using online platforms. These platforms will often give you customisable templates that will help make your New Year 2025 celebration more exciting.

DIY Invitations: Use glitter or theme-related graphics to craft personalised invitations that speak to your celebration’s vibe and let you add a personal twist that reflects your creativity. Your guests can also keep handmade invitations as keepsakes and remember the fun they had at your party.

When curating your guest list:

Balance Your Guests: Have a varied assembly of friends and relatives to make a lively setting so that various characters and dynamics make for a good evening.  This diversity can produce interesting conversations and connections among guests who don’t know each other that well.

Food and Drink Menu

A standout food and drink menu can elevate your New Year 2025 celebration:

Unique Cocktail Recipes: Set the mood for the evening and create signature cocktails which suit your theme. Serving champagne cocktails made with fresh fruit like strawberries or raspberries is a refreshing twist.

Another great option is to create themed drinks, like “The Gatsby,” which consists of gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup garnished with a twist of lemon.

And remember to mix up a festive Pomegranate Martini made with vodka, pomegranate juice and a splash of lime for a ruby-coloured drink that’s bright and celebratory, just like this time of year.

Festive Appetizers: Be sure to offer some variety with different types of appetizers that people can choose from so everyone gets a taste. Imagine a selection of elegant cheese platters serving an appetizer spread of cheeses, crackers, and seasonal fruit.

New Year 2025

Individual cups offer a touch of sophistication with shrimp cocktails, and hearty mini sliders (mutton, chicken or paneer) offer guests something to eat while mingling. Remember to add some vegetarian options, such as stuffed mushrooms or bruschetta with fresh tomatoes and basil, to mix things up and keep the spread wide and interesting.

Themed Food Stations: Have guests construct their own dishes at interactive food stations, making dining more fun. A taco bar is a favourite for all ages because it lets guests pick and choose from proteins, toppings and salsas to customise their tacos.

You can also add a fondue station where people can dip many things into melted cheese or chocolate—bread, fruit, or vegetables. This station fosters interaction and provides an atmosphere of relaxation where guests can enjoy making their own culinary delights.

Countdown to Midnight

As midnight approaches, creating excitement around the countdown is essential:

Memory Lane Slideshow: Compile a collection of your guests’ best moments from the past year with photos and video. Ring in 2025 with everyone reminiscing about it as you play this during the countdown.

Countdown Scavenger Hunt: Have guests complete fun challenges or find items, all within the hour leading up to midnight, so you can organise a scavenger hunt. They earn a small prize for each completed task, so everyone is engaged and active until the new year.

Time Capsule Creation: Ask guests to add items or words to a time capsule for the new year that represent what they hope for the new year. At midnight, make sure it’s sealed, and plan on opening it at next year’s celebration to continue this sense of continuity and anticipation over future gatherings.

New Year 2025

Conclusion

When you’re thinking about planning your New Year 2025 celebration, remember that the most memorable night you share with friends and family is made by personal touches and shared experiences. Small details often make an event memorable, from choosing a great theme to picking the perfect food and entertainment.

It’s about celebrating with your guests, so embrace creativity and invite them to participate because it will be another year filled with possibilities. Let’s make this New Year’s Eve more than just a party; let’s make it a memory that will last long into 2025!

Diwali, or Deepawali, also known as the ‘Festival of Lights,’ is an important Hindu festival celebrated in India and among the Hindu communities worldwide. It is one of the liveliest festivals to mark the victory of light over darkness and good over evil, and it is currently celebrated in many societies and cultures worldwide. As we eagerly await Diwali 2024, let us look into the origin of Diwali, the auspicious timings,  and how the festival of light is celebrated.

The Mythological Origins of Diwali

Though Diwali is famously associated with Hindu mythology, several legends are related to this festival.

Lord Rama’s Return to Ayodhya

The most popular story connected with Diwali is probably the story of Lord Rama, who returned to his city of Ayodhya after 14 years in exile. The Hindu epic Ramayana presents Rama as the rightful King of Ayodhya. Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and his brother Lakshmana were exiled on account of a palace conspiracy.

While in the forest, Sita is kidnapped by Lord Ravana, the demon king. Rama fights bravely against Ravana, triumphs over him, and rescues Sita. When they returned to Ayodhya, people lit lamps, illuminating their path home. This celebration marked the victory of divine light over the demonic forces and signifies that righteousness always prevails.

Diwali 2024

Other Mythological Narratives

There’s also a legend from the Mahabharata of the Pandava brothers returning to their kingdom after several years in exile; their subjects light hundreds of lamps in honour of the brothers. Diwali is also celebrated to mark the victory of Lord Krishna over the demon king Narakasura in the southern states of India.

The primary goddess revered in the Diwali festival is Lakshmi, the goddess of fortune. An ancient myth reveals that the angered goddess decided to leave heaven and plunge into the Milky Ocean. Believing the world would turn dark when she was gone, the ocean was churned for 1,000 years to pave the way for her re-emergence.

Preparations Leading Up to Diwali 2024

There are various rituals and activities that the families undertake during the preparation of Diwali.

It’s a tradition to clean homes and offices in preparation for welcoming the Goddess Lakshmi. Devotees believe that a clean environment attracts wealth and prosperity. It is common to repaint or renovate the family’s spaces to tidy up everything in preparation for the events.

Rangoli for Diwali 2024

Lighting Diyas and Rangoli

The use of diyas, electric lights, and rangoli (a design made from coloured powders or flower petals) is a must for Diwali. Not only do these decorations make homes beautiful, but they also welcome blessings from the gods to families.

Diwali celebrations span five days, each with its own significance:

Day 1: Kubera Pooja

The five-day festival of Diwali 2024 begins with Kubera Pooja, meaning “the worship of wealth.” On this day, devotees worship Lord Dhanwantari (an incarnation of Lord Vishnu), who is revered as the God of Ayurveda and other healing sciences, signifying that health is wealth.

The tradition is that people clean their houses, lit diya around the Tulsi plant, and pray to the god of death known as ‘Lord Yama’ for longevity. They also traditionally buy some valuable commodity, which is usually associated with buying gold, signifying the coming of prosperity. It is also a good day to start a new business and other activities.

Day 2: Naraka Chaturdashi (Choti Diwali)

This day is celebrated to remember Lord Krishna’s triumph over the demon Narakasur, who had abducted the gopis.

On this day, people rise from bed early, anoint themselves with fragrant oils, and take a bath. This ritual is deemed to wash away sins and other impurities that may be present in the body. People also decorate their homes and light clay lamps to signify ‘shubh’, ‘swagat’, and ‘mukti’ from darkness. Some also create rangoli.

Day 3: Lakshmi Puja (Main Diwali Night)

The third day is the main Diwali festival, symbolising Lord Rama’s return to his kingdom, Ayodhya, and the worship of Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. The day is celebrated with the notion of Goddess Lakshmi entering homes and showering the occupants with fortunes.

On Diwali, homes light up with diyas, candles, and electric lights. People come together to celebrate their auspicious puja of Goddess Lakshmi and pray to bring wealth and fortune into their homes.

Diwali 2024

Day 4: Govardhan Puja/Padwa

The fourth day of Diwali celebrates the tale of Lord Krishna, who lifted the Govardhan Mountain to protect the people of Gokul from Lord Indra’s fury.

Devotees prepare a small hill, often from cow dung, in remembrance of Govardhan and worship. It is also a day to go to friends’ and families’ homes and share food and presents.

Day 5: Bhai Dooj

The last and final day of the Diwali festival celebration is termed Bhai Dooj and is dedicated to the relationship between a brother and sister. The day is linked to the story of Lord Yama and his sister Yami to stress the theme of the eternal brother-sisterly bond.

Sisters invite their brothers for a meal and apply’ tilak’ on their brother’s forehead to pray for his long life. In return, the brothers gift their sisters to show appreciation, love, and care that every sister cherishes.

Diwali Celebrations 2024

Regional Variations in Celebrations

While Diwali shares common themes across India, its celebrations vary significantly by region.

North India: Here, Diwali mainly centres on Lord Rama’s homecoming to his kingdom, Ayodhya. Diyas are placed in homes, houses are painted, and large fireworks are set off.

South India: In states like Tamil Nadu, Diwali is associated with Lord Krishna’s victory over Narakasura, where people wake up to early morning rituals, including oil baths.

West Bengal: The festival has a different tone altogether as it is accompanied by Kali Puja—the festival of Goddess Kali, who is the symbol of strength and power against all evils.

Gujarat: The festival is also the new year among the Gujarati community. Other celebration activities include traditional dances like Garba and lamp lighting.

Global Celebrations: The Hindu community living abroad also celebrates Diwali. Celebrations range from grand festivities in countries like Nepal and Sri Lanka to smaller celebrations in Western countries, where Diwali Melas involving food festivals and other Indian cultural programs are held.

The Spirit of Diwali

Diwali is not just a festival but a symbol of hope, a new beginning, and unity. On this joyful occasion, families get together to celebrate through age-old rituals that symbolise the fight between good and evil not only in mythology but also in our contemporary reality. Celebrating Diwali teaches the spirit of joyfully sharing happiness with loved ones and creating positive energy.

When preparing for Diwali 2024, remember that the light of each diya symbolises a beckon of hope for the future.

It involves numerous rituals, cultural programs, and religious ceremonies in India and among Hindus in other parts of the world.

The term ‘Navratri’ is derived from the words ‘Nava’, meaning nine, and ‘ratri’, meaning nights; hence, nine nights are dedicated to worshipping the nine forms or manifestations of the goddess, collectively known as Navadurga.

Every festival day is devoted to a particular aspect of the divine feminine, emphasising strength, devotion, and renewal. The end of Maha Navratri is marked by Dussehra, which symbolises Lord Rama’s triumph over the demon Ravana, which gives another meaning to the festival, emphasising the triumph of good over evil.

The Origin and Mythology Behind Maha Navratri

Maha Navratri originates in Hindu mythology, where the goddess Durga battles the demon Mahishasura. Mahishasura received a boon from Lord Brahma that no one except a woman could kill him. This boon caused him to wreak havoc in the earth, the heavens, and the netherworld realms, where neither gods nor mortals could stand against him. In its wake, the holy trinity of Hindu gods, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, joined together and created the fierce Goddess Durga, the epitome of female power and valour.

Maha Navratri 2024

The battle between the goddess and Mahishasura was fought for nine nights, which personifies the fight between the forces of the dark and the divine. Mahishasura took many forms to challenge the goddess Durga, but she was able to kill him by striking his heart when he appeared in the form of a buffalo. This victory is considered a conquest of good over evil, and thus, the end of Maha Navratri is observed on the tenth day, called Vijayadashami or Dussehra. On this day, the victory over Mahishasura is remembered, instilling the message of victory of good over evil.

The 9 Incarnations of Goddess Durga

Here are the nine forms of the goddess Durga and their significance:

Goddess Shailputri

Worshipped on the first day, Shailputri, meaning the daughter of the mountains, signifies purity and strength. She rides a bull and is depicted holding a trident and a lotus. It is believed that Goddess Shailputri possesses the combined powers of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. The devotees worship the goddess with offerings of pure ghee to be blessed with healthy lives.

Goddess Brahmacharini

The second day of Navratri is dedicated to the worship of the goddess Brahmacharini. This form is an embodiment of worship and atonement. She is portrayed holding a rudraksha mala and a kamandalu, symbolising goddess Durga’s austere phase. Devotees offer sugar to the goddess for a long life for themselves and their loved ones.

Goddess Chandraghanta

Day three is dedicated to the goddess Chandraghanta, who is depicted as a ten-armed fierce warrior riding a tiger. She has a crescent moon on her forehead, which symbolises beauty and bravery. The goddess is known to banish fear and evil. To seek the blessings of the goddess, the devotees should offer kheer.

Goddess Kushmanda

Worshipped on the fourth day, she is the goddess of creation, depicted with eight hands and riding a lion. Her devotees offer Malpua to the goddess to receive blessings of wisdom.

Maha Navratri 2024

Goddess Skandamata

On the fifth day, the goddess worshipped is Skandamata. She is the goddess of motherhood and is shown holding her son, Kartikeya, on her lap. She is depicted as sitting on a lotus and having four hands and is considered the goddess of nurturing and protection. The devotees should present bananas to the goddess to get her blessings.

Goddess Katyayani

Worshipped on the sixth day, she is a warrior goddess, symbolising strength and power. She is an embodiment of Shakti and the daughter of Sage Katyayan. The goddess is portrayed with a sword and shield and sitting on a lion. Devotees who seek blessings are advised to offer honey.

Goddess Kaalratri

The seventh day is dedicated to the ferocious form of Durga, the goddess Kaalratri. She symbolises destruction and change. In one of the hands, she has a sword, and in the other, a trident; she has a third eye on the forehead, and it is believed to have the whole world in it. The goddess is associated with the power of dispelling darkness and ignorance. Offering jaggery pleases the goddess.

Goddess Mahagauri

She is celebrated on the eighth day and represents purity and beauty. The goddess holds a Trishul, and she holds a Damru on the other hand. She is depicted as having white skin and is commonly associated with riding a bull, symbolising elegance and calmness. The ideal offering for the goddess is coconut.

Goddess Siddhidatri

On the last day, the goddess Siddhidatri is revered. This form of goddess Durga symbolises the attainment of desire and spiritual enlightenment. She is depicted sitting on a lotus and holding various divine objects, signifying the attainment of powers and accomplishments.

Significance of Ghatasthapana

Ghatasthapana Muhurat

In this rite, a sacred vessel (kalash) containing water is either placed in the mandir of the home  or next to the idol of the goddess to represent the divine feminine energy, Shakti. This act symbolises the start of a spiritual journey with the calling of blessings and the cleansing of the environment for the celebration.

Shri Krishna Janmashtami and Its Astrological Importance

The story that has been passed down about Lord Krishna’s birth is undoubtedly very interesting and engaging. He was born in Rohini Nakshatra, Ashtami Tithi, and Krishna Paksha of the Amavasya night. According to Hindu Panchang, he was born in the month of Bhadrapada. Therefore, the Shri Krishna Janmashtami dates and times are calculated based on these astrological calculations.

He was born to negate the age of dharma every time it rose in the world. He is the Saviour who comes forward to counter adharma and the people involved in it. Krishna killed his uncle Kansa when his wickedness was at its worst. Hence, Lord Vishnu descends to earth in different avatars to restore the rule of order and righteousness whenever the world is filled with chaos and fear.

The Importance of Krishna Janmashtami Festival

According to Hindu mythology, Shri Krishna took his birth on Ashtami Tithi, which is the eighth day of the dark half of the month of Bhadrapada in Mathura town. According to Hindu mythology in India, he was born to Devaki and Vasudeva. Devaki was the sister of the demon king of Mathura, Kansa. According to a prophecy, Kansa’s sins would be punished, and the eighth son of Devaki would kill him. Thus, Kansa put his own sister and her husband in prison. He sought to murder Devaki’s children as soon as they were born to eradicate the probability of the prophecy being fulfilled.

When the eighth son was born to Devaki, the whole palace was put to a magic sleep, and Vasudeva escaped with the child and placed it in the house of Yashodha and Nanda at Vrindavan. This baby was an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and became known as Shri Krishna, who finally slew Kansa and ended Kansa’s reign of fear.

Shri Krishna Janmashtami 2024

Rituals Performed During Shri Krishna Janmashtami Festival

It is a festival loved by the young and the old, and the rituals of this day are very much related to this. Let us look at some of the standard practices that are associated with this day-

People all over India offer their prayers by fasting on this day. This fast can be observed throughout the day, and the food is taken after a specific time, which is considered to be the birth time of Lord Krishna, that is, after midnight.

People recite the divine name all day, filling the environment with divine energy and commitment. Hymns are sung, and recitation of the Lord’s prayer is common, especially in the temples of Krishna. The bhajans are mainly sung in praise of the Lord, thus making the surrounding environment more spirited.

On a large scale, dramas enacting the story of Krishna and his various leelas are staged all over. Raas Leela is also enacted with kids dressed up like Krishna and Gopis and dancing to the songs that represent their affection.

Makhan is a delicacy very dear to Lord Krishna, and therefore, it is served on the day. Desi sweets like dry fruits, milk, khoya, and sugar are prepared to please the little Gopal. It is expected to hear people reciting lessons from the Bhagavad Gita to pass a message about Krishna and what life is all about.

Shri Krishna Janmashtami 2024

Legends Associated with Janmashtami

The entire kingdom falls into a magical sleep when Devaki gives birth, which helps Vasudeva take the opportunity to escape with his newborn son out of Mathura. He also took little Krishna in a basket during the floods of the rainy season. The king of the snakes, Sheshnag, appeared from the water of the Yamuna and covered the two with his five-headed hood. Thus, with the cosmic powers’ help, Vasudeva could ford the strong current of the river Yamuna and reach Gokul. Once he arrived, Vasudeva left his son with his foster parents, Yashoda and Nanda.

Yashoda, on the other hand, had given birth to a girl child who was considered a reincarnation of Goddess Durga. Vasudeva exchanged the girl for Krishna, and the baby girl was taken back to Mathura. He, therefore, succeeds in deceiving Kansa into thinking that the prophecy of his death at the hands of Devaki’s eighth-born son is untrue, thus giving him a false sense of happiness and relief.

Every year, the Festival of Janmashtami is enjoyed with great enthusiasm and energy as the followers of Lord Krishna celebrate the birthday of their Lord and Saviour.
